The time has come. AWS AI League returns with more learning, more fun and more chances to punch a ticket to AWS re:Invent.

AWS AI League

AWS AI League builds on the legacy of fun and engaging educational products and programs by Amazon Web Services. It combines numerous LLM and agentic tasks in gamified challenges which users solve as you acquire real-life applicable skills.

The best players meet at the end of the season at the AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas to compete for prizes, bragging rights and glory.

Visit the AI League Page to learn how you and your organisation can join the fun and supercharge building the skills for the future.

Join the AWS AI Community to meet curious minds and learn (and compete) with each other.

Leage challenges

There are two known AWS AI League challenges so far: model fine-tuning and agent building.

Model fine-tuning

Players are tasked with preparing efficient expert solutions for a challenge. Organisations can have their own specific type of a challenge. During the AWS re:Invent the challenge given was about preparing a Las Vegas tour guide.

The constraints are in the size of the LLM model to be used for a task and the size of the LLM model acting as an opponent in the evaluation. You build a fine-tuning dataset on topic, set up a training task in Sagemaker Studio and let it train. Once ready, you submit an evaluation where questions you don’t know are asked to your model and the opponent and an AI juror decides the winner and quality of response. Some events may also involve human jurors and the audience.

Agent building

Players build a multiagent system with memory, guardrails and lambda tools to complete a game. As a player you build a pathfinding tool for a game board and lambdas and subagents able to take on challenges which may give you points or cost you lives.

This is what the game level can look like. You have a maze and a character that follows a route while gathering points

You play by completing a workshop, using an AWS AI League portal. The game evolves with new levels and challenges introduced, making it go beyond a “build once - compete anywhere” model.

You can get an idea of what the challenge is like by reading the community article about the AWS AI League 2025 final.

League structure

There are bits of the league structure that we already know about and others which we are yet to learn - Amazonians like to surprise the participants with exciting additions. This article focuses on the bits we do know.

Competition stages

Enterprise qualifiers

Your organisation can join the competition to host an internal AWS AI League event. The winners qualify to the finals at AWS re:Invent. AWS supports you through the process to make it a beneficial and fun educational event.

If you want to join the league, visit the AWS AI League page for more information and submit your interest.

Individual qualifiers

If you want to participate individually, this year AWS makes it possible by bringing the AWS AI League qualifiers in person to AWS Summits. While we can expect the challenges to be some form of the two above I would not be surprised if we had something completely different in later events.

The league will come to AWS Summits in:

  • London (22nd of April)
  • Bengaluru (22nd-23rd of April)
  • Sydney (13th-14th of May)
  • Seoul (20th-21st of May)
  • New York City (17th of June)
  • Hong Kong (17th of June)
  • Shanghai (23rd-24th of June)
  • Washington DC (30th of June-1st of July)
  • Mexico City (12th of August)

The summits are free to subscribe to and join, and you will the AI League workshop in the agenda in the AWS Events app.

The finals

There are only pieces of information about the finals. Details usually come shortly before the event so we will need to wait.

What we know:

  • Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Time: during the AWS re:Invent conference, 30th of November-4th of December
  • Prize pool: $50,000
  • Participants: 25 finalists

How to join

If you represent an enterprise organisation, contact AWS with your interest and get the ball rolling. Visit AWS AI League page for more information.

If you are an individual wanting to participate, sign up to an AWS Summit near you and join the fun.

In both cases, Join and follow the AWS AI Community for information, updates and to learn together.
